Academic Sciences Building

Live Learn Downtown

Location: Downtown Honolulu, Oahu

Year: 2019-2024

This project involves the adaptive reuse and comprehensive renovation of the notable 1042 Fort Street building, a three-story concrete, masonry, and steel structure located in Downtown Honolulu’s Financial District.

1042 Fort Street is one of three buildings which occupy one contiguous property at 59 South Hotel Street. Originally built in 1956 and renovated in 1986, it was constructed for commercial office and retail use. The site is centrally located on a pedestrian mall, near the Hotel Street bus corridor and active retail establishments.

This new, state-of-the-art facility revitalizes Hawai’i Pacific University’s campus while preserving the building’s historical integrity, ensuring it continues to support education and research for years to come. The redesigned space includes science classrooms, research labs, and faculty offices, all thoughtfully crafted to foster a productive and supportive learning environment for students to grow and excel.
