Cube and Bar House
Hillsdale, New York, 2007
DSA designed two versions of this weekend home located on a wooded rural lot in upstate New York for a family who reside three hours away in New York City. Planned to be prefabricated off site with sustainability and economy in mind, the first version of this house is an insulated 28-foot cube, while the second version is a 16-foot wide by 80-foot long by 10-foot high bar shape. Both versions sit on a raised concrete pier foundations. The diverse sizes, shapes and position of each window openings create a dynamic inside-outside composition which is determined by the framing of desired views, the degree of privacy needed inside and the micro-climate at its particular side of the site.
